Foundation

A microbial soil amendment

Foundation is a natural mined “Ancient Humus” found in the Southeastern USA. The deposit is a unique natural blend of organic matter that was deposited in a bowl shaped depression tens of thousands of years ago. The deposit has never been subjected to compaction or high temperatures, thus preserving all of the living biology in the deposit.

Our processing is simple and safe to the critical ingredients found in the raw material. We simply remove any brush and surface debris, and then take off a thin (eight inch) layer of material from the surface to ensure we get maximum beneficial soil biology and still leave enough to repopulate the next layer. At the processing facility we screen the raw product to remove roots and/or other debris to give us a dry humate (Ancient Humus) material. Because the process does not require heat or chemicals of any kind our basic humate has not been altered in any way. Since the chemical makeup of our humate has not been altered, Foundation contains one of the highest levels of live beneficial soil biology found in the world.

Organic Carbon & Other Elements

Latest laboratory tests show our dry product, Foundation Dry contains over 67% humic acid and 1.76% nitrogen as well as small amounts of phosphorous and potassium. Additionally, it has small amounts of the trace elements calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, zinc, copper and sulfur, all needed for plant life. These elements are in a plant available form. The carbon to nitrogen ratio is 25.63 to 1 (25.63/1) and Foundation has a pH of 4.97. However, it is the microbial life that makes this humate the best on the market. Foundation Liquid is made using a proprietary process that keeps the natural beneficial soil biology alive. In addition to humic acid, both Foundation formulas also contain fulvic acid, ulmic acid and lignin as well as all of the elements listed above.

Humic Substances

One of the things that sets our products apart from other humate products is the humic substances in Foundation products are naturally occurring humic, fulvic and ulmic acids of the highest quality and have not been altered or degraded by heat or chemicals used in processing. Humates that come from coal or shale after the grinding process is heated and/or chemicals are used. These processes can alter the chemical makeup of the basic humate.

Humic acid is that fraction of humic substances that is not soluble in water under acidic conditions (below pH 2) but is soluble at a greater pH. A substantial fraction of the mass of the humic acids is in carboxylic acid functional groups, which endow these molecules with the ability to chelate positively charged multivalent ions (Mg++, Ca++ and Fe++). The chelating of ions is probably the most important role of humic acids with respect to living systems. By chelating ions, the humic acids facilitate the uptake of ions through beneficial fungi and root systems.

Fulvic acid is that fraction of humic substances that is soluble under all pH conditions. Fulvic acid works biologically as a food source establishing a desirable environment for microorganism growth and development. As a growth stimulant, it increases seed germination, viability and root respiration plus the formation of plant growth, thus increasing crop yield and quality. Fulvic acid also helps detoxify pollutants in the soil and absorbs many poisons (reducing soil-life damage) and catalyzes the rapid breakdown of toxins.

Ulmic acid is the acid radical found in humic matter which is soluble in alkali. Like humic and fulvic acid, it has properties for nutrient release and cation absorption.

Lignin: The other major contributor to Foundation not found in humates derived from coal is lignin. Lignin is originally found as an integral part of the secondary cell walls of plants and some algae. In humates, lignin binds metal ions, thus preventing them from reacting with other compounds and becoming soluble. Metal ions sequestered with lignosulfonates stay dissolved in solution keeping them available to plants. In the case of pesticide residue, lignin locks it up and holds it until soil biology can break it down into harmless compounds thus protecting groundwater. Lignin is also a high-level food source for the good fungi in your soil helping keep it alive while soils regain health. Water binding qualities allow lignin to hold as much as seven times its own weight in water making plants more drought resistant thereby helping reduce water usage.

Live Soil Biology

Separating Foundation humates from those derived from coal and shale is the many forms of living, natural soil biology. One of the microorganisms indigenous to the site is nitrobacillus georgiensis; a natural nitrogen fixing agent. Some of the microbes and fungi found in Foundation enhance the root system and its ability to access food and water. Others help plants naturally fight off pests and diseases by building the plants natural immune system. Still others inhibit pathogens naturally found in soils such as Fusarium oxysporum, Phytophthora sp., Collectotrichum sp., Helminthosporium sp., Sclerotium rolfsii, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and others. As a foliar spray Foundation Liquid helps combat various leaf diseases and provides nutrients to all of the above-ground parts of the plant.

Summary

Foundation is a unique blend of natural organic ingredients that have decomposed to the humate state in an environment that was never subjected to excessive heating or compaction to convert them into a hardened substance. This unusual deposit allows us to offer you a totally unaltered humate loaded with copius amounts of diversified beneficial microbes. Foundation is non-toxic, E-coli free and safe to use around people, pets and wildlife while it continually works to improve and protect the environment.

Rates

For lawns, grasslands, sod and gardens:

Liquid Foundation can be applied using a hose end sprayer, apply at a rate of approximately one ounce (two tablespoons) of product per gallon of water. Spray to run off. Foundation is safe and will not harm plants, pets or environment. Suggested rate of one pint per 2,000 square feet of turf.

Hand sprayers should be mixed at the rate of one ounce (two tablespoons) per gallon of water to cover no more than 150 square foot of turf. For best results, water after application, ideally bring water to field capacity.

For irrigation systems, apply one gallon of Foundation per acre leaving on foliage. Repeat application every two weeks for four applications then reduce to applying once a month.

Decorative and flowering plants

Hose end or hand sprayers should be mixed at a rate of approximately two ounces of Foundation per gallon of water. Wet the plants down completely, letting the soil get damp.

Shrubs and Trees

To root drench on established shrubs and trees apply at a rate of three ounces of Foundation per gallon of water. For best results this should be applied at one foot each side of the drip line. For smaller shrubs and young trees, a rate of two ounces (four tablespoons) of Foundation per gallon of water.

As a foliar spray we recommend one ounce (two tablespoons) per gallon of water. If plants are stressed apply every week for four applications then reduce to applying once a month.

Frequency of Application

Foundation should be applied about once a month for healthy lawns and plants. If plants are under stress from disease, apply each week for four applications. Under normal conditions start applying Foundation at the start of spring and continue until late fall. Foundation will not burn your plants from over application and is totally safe to use around wildlife, pets and children.

Overall water usage may be reduced after several applications.

Fertilize using your regular program for the first 30 days after you start using Foundation. Slowly reduce the use of fertilizer to 50% of the original dosage. You can apply fertilizer in combination with Foundation. Look at switching to an organic fertilizing program for the health of your plants and the environment.

Foundation is not a fertilizer but can help you reduce the amount of fertilizer you are applying. Growers have reported fertilizer application reduced by 75% while increasing production.

Brewing Compost Tea

Use one ounce of Liquid Foundation for each gallon of tea you are brewing. Add to your compost pile at 2% weight of raw composting materials. This will increase the speed of making compost and will improve the quality of your compost.

Seed Starter

Mix with water at one part Foundation to five parts water. Make enough to completely cover seeds and let sit over night before planting.

Pesticides and herbicides are harmful to your soil life and should be used sparingly.

Foundation is sold in Liquid and Dry Forms.

Foundation Liquid is sold in 5 gallons buckets and 250 gallon totes.

Foundation Dry is sold by the pound in 40, 1,000 and 2,000 pound bags.

When constructing a building, a solid Foundation is mandatory. The same is true with soil. To have a healthy crop, a good Foundation is required.

You must start with a good Foundation in everything you do or your project will fail.

3. Since it is in a totally natural form, all of the beneficial micro-biology is ready for use. Included in this micro-biology are a number of indigenous species not found elsewhere. One of these is a natural nitrogen fixing agent.

4. Foundation is the only one on the market that contains, naturally, a food source for all of its biology and fungi. Without this food source to keep the biology and fungi alive you will lose most of it before it can help the soil or plant.

5. Many humates on the market are derived from soft coal deposits where some of the trace elements including heavy metals have seeped into the deposit from the overlying layers of earth. This means that there can be numerous trace elements that may not be in a plant available form and it increases the chance of heavy metals intrusion. Our ‘Ancient Humus’ deposit has never been overburdened therefore; all elements are still in a plant available form.

6. Foundation’s humus deposit is made up of a unique natural blend of 60% marine life and 40% plant carbon compounds. This blend gives it a very wide range of useful trace elements in a form that is readily available to plants.
